Port Houston Partners With DSP To Strengthen Terminal Tech And EDI Systems

64

In a move to enhance efficiency, security, and digital connectivity, Port Houston has signed a strategic agreement with global terminal tech firm DSP and its U.S. arm, DSP America. This partnership focuses on upgrading and maintaining Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems and supporting critical database operations tied to the port’s Terminal Operating System (TOS).

Enhancing Container Movement and Global Connectivity

Port Houston, the busiest container hub on the U.S. Gulf Coast, uses the Navis N4 TOS to manage container logistics across shipping lines, railroads, U.S. Customs, and port customers. EDI messaging forms the digital backbone of this system, enabling real-time data exchanges vital for container tracking and clearance.

Through this new collaboration, DSP will oversee Port Houston’s EDI infrastructure and provide continuous database support, ensuring uninterrupted cargo flow and smooth coordination with global trade partners.

A Strategic Alliance for Seamless Operations

DSP, a long-standing Navis partner since 2007, brings deep experience in providing round-the-clock IT support for marine terminals. Its global “follow-the-sun” model allows for continuous operations support across time zones.

“DSP is uniquely positioned to support Port Houston in this critical effort” said Marco Fehmer, CEO of DSP. “As a Navis Partner since 2007, we have extensive experience in providing 24/7 IT services that are mission-critical to marine terminal operations. With our global presence and ‘follow the sun’ support strategy, we are committed to delivering top-tier solutions that enhance operational efficiency.”

Port leaders echoed this commitment to operational excellence.

“Port Houston is proud to partner with DSP, through its U.S. branch DSP America, to enhance the reliability and performance of our terminal operating system at the container terminals we operate”, said Ryan Mariacher, Chief Port Operations Officer at Port Houston. “This new collaboration helps ensure smooth and secure communication with our partners around the world, supporting the fast, transparent, and efficient movement of cargo through our terminals.”

Future-Ready Port Vision

This initiative supports Port Houston’s long-term strategy to lead in digital innovation, environmental performance, and freight mobility. By modernizing its data and messaging systems, the port continues to set a benchmark for smart port infrastructure on the Gulf Coast.
