PSA Singapore and Hainan Harbor & Shipping International Port Co., Ltd. (operator of Yangpu International Container Terminal – YPICT) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering port-to-port connectivity and developing advanced logistics solutions.

Significant Partnership

A significant partnership has been forged between PSA Singapore, which operates the world’s largest transshipment hub, and Hainan Harbor & Shipping International Port Co., Ltd. (YPICT), managing Yangpu Port, Hainan’s largest container terminal. This collaboration aims to substantially enhance connectivity and develop integrated logistics solutions between these key maritime centers.

The core focus of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to improve connectivity between Singapore’s global transshipment capabilities and Yangpu Port’s strategic location in Hainan. Both parties will jointly explore operational synergies to boost service efficiency, optimize cargo flow, and strengthen network reliability across the vital South China and Southeast Asia trade routes.

Beyond immediate operational benefits, the MoU also provides crucial support for the long-term development of logistics and supply chain infrastructure across Hainan Island. This aligns directly with China’s broader Free Trade Port strategy, which seeks to transform Hainan into a major international trade and logistics hub.

Nelson Quek, Regional CEO Southeast Asia, PSA International, emphasized the strategic advantages of this partnership, stating that combining “PSA’s extensive global network with YPICT’s pivotal location in South China gives a chance to unlock new opportunities for trade flows between South China and the greater economic regions in Southeast Asia.” This highlights the potential for increased trade volumes and improved efficiency across a wide geographical area.
