  • Norwegian consortium launches green maritime energy hub at Karmsund Port.
  • Project to supply hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol for low-emission shipping.
  • Facility will act as a testing ground for zero-emission maritime technologies.

A group of leading Norwegian companies has come together to develop a Green Maritime Energy Station at the Port of Karmsund in Haugesund. The project is designed to accelerate the decarbonization of shipping by offering clean fuel alternatives for vessels operating in Norwegian waters.

The initiative is led by Greenstat and Norled, with support from ZEG Power, Gen2 Energy, Stord Hydrogen, and Karmsund Port Authority. These stakeholders bring complementary strengths in hydrogen production, fuel technology, and maritime operations, aiming to build a robust and scalable green energy network for ships.

Green Maritime Hub Set to Transform Haugesund Port

The energy station will supply a variety of green fuels—including hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol—tailored for ferries, offshore service vessels, and cargo ships. It will also function as a testbed for zero-emission technologies, offering an environment for piloting new systems and integrating renewable energy.

With global shipping under pressure to reduce emissions, this project seeks to position Norway at the forefront of maritime sustainability. Backed by potential government funding and innovation programs, the Haugesund station is expected to serve as a model for similar green ports worldwide.
