Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has announced the full acquisition of Kadmos Holding GmbH, a rapidly expanding German fintech company that specializes in global, end-to-end maritime salary payment solutions.

Founded in 2021 and based in Berlin and London, Kadmos serves shipowners, ship managers, and the global seafaring workforce, providing secure and cost-effective cross-border salary transfers with a focus on transparency and financial inclusion.

Strategic Expansion of NYK’s Digital Financial Services

This acquisition marks a major step in NYK’s digital transformation strategy. In 2019, NYK launched MarCoPay Inc. in Manila, a licensed financial services platform catering specifically to Filipino seafarers, offering salary disbursement, loans, and insurance services.

With MarCoPay already licensed as an electronic money issuer by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the addition of Kadmos allows NYK to expand its reach beyond the Philippines and cater to seafarers of all nationalities.

A Unified Platform for Global Impact

By combining Kadmos’ international capabilities with MarCoPay’s strong foothold in the Filipino market, NYK plans to develop a comprehensive and inclusive digital-salary payments platform. This unified system will allow:

  • Global salary disbursement to multi-national crews

  • Real-time access to wages

  • Reduced remittance fees

  • Financial services tailored to seafarer well-being

Supporting the Maritime Workforce

Kadmos and MarCoPay will continue to operate collaboratively under NYK’s leadership, working towards industry-wide adoption of transparent, tech-driven salary solutions that improve financial access, security, and dignity for maritime workers globally.
