Recently container ship capacity on Far East–Europe routes hit 7.9 million TEU (Mteu) — an 11.7% year-on-year growth, bringing the sector to the brink of an 8 Mteu milestone. Nearly 90% of vessels on this route now exceed 12,500 TEU capacity, highlighting a major upscaling in vessel size.
Sub-Saharan Africa Leads Growth
The Sub-Saharan Africa trade lane saw the highest annual growth at 19.5%, buoyed by the recent ULCS Megamax ship calls at Ghana’s ports of Tema and Lome, signaling the region’s growing role in global trade.
