The Port of Gothenburg has signed long-term lease and port dues agreements with Inter Terminals Sweden, solidifying a 25-year partnership that supports sustainable growth and the transition to renewable fuels.

Long-Term Stability to Drive Energy Transformation

The newly signed agreements span both above-ground storage areas and underground rock caverns, with a port dues structure linked to traffic and volume. This long-term commitment ensures operational stability for Inter Terminals and enables the Port of Gothenburg to advance its goal of becoming a future-ready energy port.

Agreement Overview

  • Signed on: July 1

  • Includes:

    • Lease agreements for above-ground areas and underground rock caverns

    • Cargo port dues agreement based on traffic and volume

  • Purpose: To provide stable, predictable terms for land and infrastructure use, facilitating investment and operational planning.

Strategic Importance

Port CEO Göran Eriksson emphasized the deal’s value in enabling the port to develop into a future-focused energy hub, transitioning away from fossil fuels.

“With a 25-year agreement, we gain long-term stability and predictability, giving us a solid foundation for developing an energy port for the future focused on transitioning from fossil to renewable products. Having a skilled, long-term, and responsible partner like Inter Terminals Sweden with us in this effort is something we see as very positive,” 

Supporting Renewable Expansion

Inter Terminals Sweden, a long-standing port partner since 1964, is the third-largest energy segment customer at the Port of Gothenburg.

  • Already handling renewable fuels such as HVO and FAME

  • Plans to scale up operations through:

    • Tank conversion and new tank construction

    • Investment in green technology and infrastructure

    • Expansion of biofuel logistics capacity

Managing Director Johan Zettergren highlighted the benefits of predictable costs and long-term planning in accelerating their renewable transition efforts.

This landmark agreement reinforces the Port of Gothenburg’s role in Sweden’s energy transition while empowering Inter Terminals Sweden to expand its green fuel capabilities, marking a major step toward a more sustainable energy logistics future.
