On June 30, CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Beihai Shipbuilding) successfully launched its first 319,000 DWT very large crude carrier (VLCC) for Euronav, a tanker division under Belgium’s CMB.TECH. This achievement not only highlights the yard’s growing capabilities but also reflects its transition into large-scale and serialized development of bulk carriers, container vessels, and oil tankers.

Construction Marks Key 2025 Project Milestone

Initiated on September 2, 2024, the VLCC project was identified as a flagship undertaking for Beihai Shipbuilding in 2025. From the outset, the yard implemented high standards and stringent controls across all stages of construction. A dedicated project team was assembled, drawing upon best practices and technical expertise from sister companies experienced in VLCC building. With well-defined workflows and scientific planning, Beihai managed to accelerate progress and launch the vessel 58 days ahead of schedule.
