New South Wales Ports has launched its 2025 Sustainability Strategy, centered on four key pillars: environmental protection, resilience, community wellbeing, and sustainable growth.

The announcement follows the successful completion of its 2022 strategy, laying a strong foundation for the next phase of responsible port development and operations.

Strategic Priorities for a Sustainable Future

The 2025 strategy outlines the following core priorities:

  • Championing environmental protection and decarbonisation

  • Building supply chain and business resilience

  • Fostering thriving communities and workplaces

  • Stewarding sustainable trade growth

These priorities have been aligned with NSW Ports’ strategic goals, regulatory frameworks, and global benchmarks like the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards, ensuring the strategy is globally relevant and locally impactful.

Key Areas of Action and Investment

NSW Ports’ approach includes:

  • Continuing delivery of embedded sustainability initiatives

  • Maintaining Net-Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and engaging stakeholders on Scope 3 emissions

  • Strengthening cybersecurity and port disruption monitoring to improve resilience

  • Enhancing sustainability in procurement and port development processes

  • Creating and sharing social impact indicators to assess and maximize community outcomes through engagement, sponsorships, and partnerships

Commitment to Long-Term Value and Responsible Growth

CEO Marika Calfas emphasized that the new strategy builds upon a proven framework, aiming to drive long-term value, manage risks effectively, and deliver measurable impact across all areas of operation. The strategy seeks to not only meet high standards but to raise them—setting a clear path for continuous improvement and responsible port growth.

With its 2025 Sustainability Strategy, NSW Ports reinforces its role as a responsible and forward-thinking operator, focused on climate action, resilience, community development, and trade sustainability. As the port sector evolves, this strategy positions NSW Ports to remain a leader in sustainable infrastructure and inclusive growth.
