Hyundai Glovis, a global total logistics and distribution leader, has signed a contract with Avikus, an HD Hyundai subsidiary and pioneer in autonomous navigation, to retrofit seven Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) in its fleet with the AI-driven HiNAS Control solution, reads an official release.
Digital Transformation and Supporting Carbon Reduction Goals
The agreement marks the industry’s first fleet-wide PCTC deployment of an autonomous navigation system and extends Avikus’ recent run of commercial successes.
The signing ceremony took place today at Avikus headquarters in Seoul, attended by Mr. Jungsuk Kim, Vice President of Hyundai Glovis’ Shipping Division, and Mr. Dohyeong Lim, CEO of Avikus. The scope encompasses HiNAS Control hardware and software, as well as full onboard commissioning and comprehensive crew training. Retrofits for seven selected PCTCs are expected to be completed by the first half of 2026.
The decision follows a collaborative trial that began in 2024. HiNAS Control demonstrated fuel-saving performance of up to 3.9% during pilot operations, verified through onboard data analysis, enhanced voyage-planning accuracy, and AI-based collision-avoidance support. Building on these results, Hyundai Glovis will leverage the technology to support its initiative of achieving 2045 Net Zero, as part of its broader ESG strategy and company-wide digital transformation strategy.
HiNAS Control fuses sensor and voyage data in real-time, utilizing machine-learning algorithms to provide decision support for collision avoidance, route optimization, and track control, thereby reducing fuel consumption and operational risk.
