Crowley’s latest LNG-powered vessel, Tiscapa, has officially entered commercial service, offering faster, more environmentally friendly ocean cargo transport between the United States, the Caribbean, and Central America.
As the newest member of the Avance Class fleet, Tiscapa expands Crowley’s capacity to serve critical trade routes with both dry and refrigerated goods, while reducing emissions using liquefied natural gas fuel.
Boosting Capacity and Sustainability
With the ability to carry 1,400 TEUs, including 300 refrigerated containers, Tiscapa is specifically built for speed and frequent cargo delivery. The LNG-powered design ensures lower emissions than traditional vessels, aligning with Crowley’s commitment to sustainable logistics solutions.
“This addition demonstrates our dedication to efficient and reliable service,” said Andrew Davis, Vice President of Operations at Crowley Logistics. “Tiscapa enhances our service capabilities for essential goods across the U.S. and Caribbean Basin.”
Serving Strategic Trade Routes
Tiscapa departed from the Port of Jacksonville, Florida, and will begin regular operations connecting the U.S., Dominican Republic, and Central America, including key trade partners like Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. This supports the transport of essential products, including food, perishables, household items, and medical supplies.
Cultural Tribute and Fleet Expansion
The vessel is named after Laguna de Tiscapa, a volcanic lagoon in Nicaragua, reflecting Crowley’s 60+ years of service in Central America. This follows earlier launches of Quetzal and Copán, named after culturally significant symbols of the region.
The fourth and final ship in the Avance Class, Torogoz—named after El Salvador’s national bird—is scheduled to enter service in August 2025, completing Crowley’s advanced fleet rollout in the region.
With the addition of Tiscapa, Crowley strengthens its logistics infrastructure while promoting sustainability through LNG technology. The ship’s enhanced capacity and service frequency promise to better serve growing trade demands between the U.S. and Central America, marking a key milestone in the company’s forward-looking maritime strategy.
