To meet the growing demand for automotive logistics in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, a new milestone has been achieved with the opening of Egypt’s first dedicated finished-vehicle terminal. Developed through a joint venture between NYK, Africa Global Logistics (AGL), and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, the Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT) is strategically located in East Port Said and designed to handle both imports and future export volumes efficiently. This advancement reflects broader regional growth trends and strengthens Egypt’s role as a logistics hub, as report published by NYK Line.

New Automotive Terminal to Strengthen Egypt’s Role in Regional Logistics

The newly launched Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT) marks a significant development in Egypt’s logistics infrastructure, supporting the country’s expanding automobile market. With economic growth and rising population fueling demand for vehicles, SCAT is positioned to handle the anticipated surge in finished-vehicle imports and the upcoming launch of full-scale exports.

Located at East Port Said, the terminal covers approximately 21.2 hectares and began operations on July 1, 2025. It features a quay that can accommodate two large car carriers at once and includes initial storage space for 2,550 vehicles, which will eventually be expanded to hold up to 10,000 vehicles. Additionally, the facility is equipped to serve the increasing demand for cargo transshipment across the region.

SCAT is operated under a 30-year concession agreement with the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The joint venture’s ownership is divided between AGL (50%), NYK (25%), and Toyota Tsusho (25%). Each partner brings critical expertise: AGL contributes its experience in African port operations; Toyota Tsusho adds deep knowledge of the Egyptian market and the automotive sector; and NYK offers global capabilities in finished vehicle logistics and terminal operations.

This collaboration enhances Egypt’s position as a strategic logistics center while supporting regional trade flows. SCAT is set to play a vital role in strengthening supply chains and fostering long-term economic development in the North African and Eastern Mediterranean corridors.
