AD Ports Group has just signed a groundbreaking 50-year land lease with Emirates Food Industries, part of the National Holding Group. This is a major move towards strengthening the UAE’s food security and logistics framework, reports AD Ports.
Strategic Development at Khalifa Port’s South Quay
The collaboration kicks off with the construction of cutting-edge silos at Khalifa Port’s South Quay, designed to increase the port’s storage capacity for essential food commodities. This initiative will elevate Khalifa Port’s status as a key logistics and trade centre, aligning with the UAE’s food security objectives.
Strengthening the UAE’s Food Security
Saif Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer, Ports Cluster – AD Ports Group, stated: “This 50-year agreement with Emirates Food Industries Group marks a significant step in our ongoing commitment to support the UAE’s food security ambitions. By providing access to our advanced infrastructure and integrated logistics solutions, we are creating a robust platform that will enhance the efficiency and resilience of the nation’s food supply chain.”
Expanding Capacity and Supply Chain Resilience
Joseph Abdo, Chief Executive Officer, Emirates Food Industries Group, commented: “This project represents a transformative step in significantly enhancing and advancing our industrial and operational capabilities in the food sector. Our long-term collaboration with AD Ports Group is a strategic imperative, which will contribute directly to the UAE’s food security objectives. The access to Khalifa Port’s world-class facilities will enable us to optimise our supply chain, expand our storage capacity, and ensure a consistent flow of essential food products to meet the growing regional demand.”
Sustainable and Agile Infrastructure
This initiative aims to create a cutting-edge, sustainable grain storage and processing facility, built on the latest industrial technologies. It highlights the shared goal of both parties to keep strategic grain reserves and bolster sustainable national food supply chains. With this strong infrastructure in place, we’ll be able to respond quickly to any market changes or supply chain challenges.
Facility Specifications and Strategic Location
The proposed facility will cover 100,000 m² and will have the capacity to store around 150,000 metric tons. Nestled within Khalifa Port, the leased area offers direct access to deep-water berths that can handle fully loaded Panamax vessels, enhancing the port’s importance in food logistics.
