  • Headway Technology Group will deliver the complete Ammonia Fuel Supply System (AFSS) for Yuchai Marine Power’s new test platform, officially launched on July 28, 2025, in Zhuhai.
  • The project adopts a full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, with Headway providing a turn-key solution from design to installation.
  • Featuring modular design and advanced safety features, the OceanGuard® AFSS has received AIP certifications from CCS, DNV, and RINA, supporting the development of WinGD’s ammonia engines.

In a significant step towards green marine innovation, Qingdao-based Headway Technology Group has officially joined Yuchai Marine Power Co Ltd in launching the construction of an advanced ammonia-fuelled engine test platform in Zhuhai. This development follows the cooperation agreement signed in November 2024. As the exclusive supplier of the Ammonia Fuel Supply System (AFSS)—the platform’s core component—Headway’s involvement signifies its critical role in enabling cleaner maritime propulsion.

Foundation Laid for Clean Marine Energy Advancement

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on July 28, 2025, brought together industry leaders including Yuchai Marine Power’s CEO Xupeng Li, General Manager Hui Deng, and Headway’s Executive President Liu Yudong. Together, they laid the foundation for a platform designed to support low-speed ammonia marine engines from manufacturers such as WinGD and Everllence. Headway’s comprehensive AFSS includes storage tanks, ammonia supply modules, unloading compressors, feed pumps, vapor processing, gas detection systems, and double-walled piping—ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Turnkey Project Delivery with EPC Model

This initiative is being implemented under a complete Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) framework. Headway is responsible for managing the entire project cycle, from detailed engineering design and civil construction to equipment manufacturing and system installation. This model enables a streamlined approach, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of a fully integrated, ready-to-operate test platform.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Modular Innovation

At the core of this platform is the OceanGuard® Ammonia Fuel Supply System, a product of Headway’s extensive experience in alternative fuels such as methanol, LNG, and LPG. Its modular architecture, dual-redundancy safety design, and user-friendly features like one-key startup and self-diagnostics make it highly adaptive and robust. The system’s unique pressure stabilization technology allows it to respond swiftly to engine load changes while maintaining pressure consistency under various operating conditions.

Recognition and Industry Validation

The OceanGuard® AFSS has received Approval in Principle (AIP) from leading classification societies, including China Classification Society (CCS), DNV, and RINA. It has also successfully been integrated into components supporting WinGD’s ammonia engine development, underlining its readiness for commercial marine applications.

A Shared Vision for a Greener Maritime Future

In his remarks at the ceremony, Headway Executive President Liu Yudong expressed strong confidence in the company’s ability to execute the project with excellence. He emphasized Headway’s mission to lead in marine alternative fuel technologies and its commitment to supporting Yuchai Marine Power’s green initiatives. Their joint goal is to accelerate the adoption of ammonia-fuelled propulsion systems, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable shipping industry.
