The Saudi Ports Authority, known as Mawani, has teamed up with the National Petroleum & Petrochemical Tank & Pipelines Company, or Petrotank, to create a state-of-the-art ship refuelling centre at King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu, reports Marine Insight.
Project Scope and Investment
This new refuelling centre will cover an impressive area of 110,700 m², with a total investment of $133 million spread out over 20 years. The goal of this project is to enhance maritime logistics capabilities and accommodate the growing number of vessels.
Strategic Alignment with National Logistics Goals
This initiative is in line with Mawani’s mission to boost the competitiveness of Saudi ports by improving fuel and oil infrastructure. It also aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims for over $266.7 billion in investments by 2030, positioning Saudi Arabia as a key player in the global logistics arena.
Existing Operations by Petrotank
Petrotank is already running a fuel station at King Fahad Industrial Port, featuring 8 tanks with a total storage capacity of 114,000 m³. This facility is essential for providing bunkering services that are crucial for vessel operations.
The Goals of the New Refuelling Centre
The new centre is set to:
- Offer fuel storage and bunkering services
- Draw in more ships to the port
- Increase port traffic and stimulate economic activity
- Directly align with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly in logistics development
King Fahad Industrial Port: A Red Sea Powerhouse
Located along the stunning Red Sea coast, King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu stands out as a vital industrial hub, renowned for managing petroleum, refined products, and various other cargoes. Covering an area of 6.8 km², it boasts 34 berths, 10 terminals, and has an impressive total handling capacity of up to 210 million tonnes.
