Dubai Ports Authority Launches Safety Awareness Drive For Bunkering Operations

The Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), through the Dubai Ports Authority (DPA), has unveiled a comprehensive awareness campaign to strengthen safety protocols and regulatory compliance for ship bunkering operations across Dubai’s ports.

The initiative aims to protect the marine environment, mitigate operational risks, and promote a safety-first culture among maritime stakeholders.

Safeguarding the Marine Environment

Captain Ibrahim AlBlooshi, Executive Director of the DPA, underscored the vital role of bunkering in ship operations, while warning of the severe environmental and financial consequences of mishandling fuel transfers.

Potential incidents could result in marine pollution, legal penalties, costly cleanup operations, and disruption to commercial activities. The campaign’s mission is to ensure that vessels and bunkering suppliers understand and adhere to DPA regulations designed to minimize such risks.

Promoting Best Practices and Compliance

The campaign will focus on educating maritime personnel and companies on international best practices, emphasizing the need for continuous crew training, reliable equipment, stringent operational monitoring, and adherence to emergency plans.

By reinforcing the regulatory framework, the DPA seeks to embed preventive measures into daily operations, ensuring both safety and sustainability.

Through this awareness campaign, the Dubai Ports Authority aims to position safety and environmental protection as core values in the bunkering sector.

By fostering a strong compliance culture and uniting stakeholders under a shared commitment to responsible operations, Dubai is reinforcing its standing as a leader in sustainable and secure maritime practices.
