Disney Destiny Cruise Ship Reaches Major Milestone with Float Out

A recent float out ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany marked a significant milestone for the Disney Destiny, a new cruise ship for Disney Cruise Line. On August 9, 2025, the ship was moved from a dry dock to a wet dock for the first time, a celebratory event attended by crowds and a special appearance by Minnie Mouse.

A First Look at the New Ship’s Design

The float out gave the public their first full view of the cruise ship’s finished exterior. It’s the third ship in Disney’s Wish-class and, like its sister ship the Disney Treasure, it’s a 144,000-gross ton vessel that can hold up to 4,000 passengers. The ship’s theme, “Heroes and Villains,” was evident in the newly revealed stern and bow art. A historic first for any cruise ship, the Disney Destiny features a Marvel character, with a depiction of Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots on the stern. The bow features heroic artwork of Minnie Mouse, who was present at the event in a matching hero outfit.

A Heroic Theme Song and a Familiar Horn

During the celebration, Disney Cruise Line unveiled a new signature theme song for the Disney Destiny. Although the name of the song was not announced, the lyrics “This is your Destiny! Seize the moment, it’s your time” fit the ship’s heroic theme. Onlookers also heard the ship’s horn play “When You Wish Upon a Star” for the first time, a nostalgic tune that serves as the cruise line’s signature calling card.

Next Steps for the Disney Destiny

The float out marks a major step toward the ship’s completion. The Disney Destiny has now been successfully docked at the shipyard’s equipment pier, where workers will focus on finishing the ship’s interior. In the coming months, the LNG-fueled ship will undergo sea trials to test its systems before its maiden voyage.
