Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) held a naming ceremony at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard for its third and fourth 11,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships—the MSC EDNA and MSC ADELE. Classed by DNV, these modern vessels are part of MSC’s push toward greener, more efficient shipping solutions.
Vessel Specifications and Naming Ceremony
The MSC EDNA (Hull No. CHB2029) and MSC ADELE (Hull No. CHB2030) boast a total length of 335 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a draft of 25 meters, and a design speed of 20 knots.
The naming event underscored MSC’s commitment to expanding its LNG-powered fleet, which offers significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional fuel vessels.
Successful Delivery and Shipyard Advancements
On August 11, a day before the naming ceremony, MSC and Changhong International signed the delivery documents for MSC EDNA via video conference, finalizing the vessel’s handover.
Changhong International emphasized that the successful and timely delivery of this series demonstrates the yard’s improved production efficiency, shorter construction cycles, refined management practices, and reduced building costs—setting a strong precedent for future high-quality ship deliveries.
The addition of MSC EDNA and MSC ADELE strengthens MSC’s growing LNG dual-fuel fleet and highlights Changhong International’s capabilities in delivering advanced, environmentally friendly vessels. These milestones not only advance MSC’s sustainability goals but also reinforce China’s role as a key player in building next-generation container ships.
