On August 14, the Hong Kong-flagged oil tanker ran into engine trouble while navigating the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey. This hiccup led to a temporary halt of shipping traffic in both directions. The tanker, which was transporting 90,730 tons of crude oil from Gibraltar to Romania, slowed down near Kandilli and received immediate assistance from the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Centre, reports Marine Traffic.
Towing and Safety Measures
With a pilot captain at the helm and the tugboat Kurtarma-8 by its side, the tanker was safely towed to Büyükdere. Additional support was provided by tugboats Kurtarma-5 and Kurtarma-11, which helped secure the vessel at anchor. Authorities reported that no oil pollution was found.
