Valenciaport’s Traffic Surges in July, Capping a Strong First Half of 2025

In July, Valenciaport reported a positive trend in its container traffic, maintaining a pattern of growth seen in recent months. The port authority handled a total of 492,874 TEUs in July, and 3.26 million TEUs from January to July, marking a 6.88% monthly and 4.28% year-to-date increase, respectively.

Container Traffic and Trends

On an annual basis, Valenciaport’s terminals moved 5.6 million TEUs over the past twelve months, a rise of 8.43% compared to the previous year. The growth was driven by an increase in full export containers, up 3.53%, and a significant jump in imports, which rose by 17.52%. However, the port experienced a 2.23% decline in transhipment traffic.

Cargo and Transport Performance

Despite the positive container figures, the total cargo handled by weight saw a slight decrease. Valenciaport’s docks handled 47.75 million tonnes in the first seven months of the year, a 1.06% drop, which was partly attributed to a more than 10% decrease in solid bulk handling.

On the other hand, Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) traffic, which includes vehicles and lorries, showed healthy growth. The port handled 8.37 million tonnes and 318,650 intermodal transport units (ITUs) in this category, representing a 3.65% increase.

Rail transport also performed well, with a cumulative total of nearly 2 million tonnes handled by rail, an increase of 9.09% compared to the same period in 2024. For the first time this year, the number of passengers on regular ferry lines (466,549) surpassed the number of cruise passengers (430,223).
