In an effort to enhance East-West freight flows, a new, state-of-the-art intermodal terminal is being developed in Małaszewicze, Poland. The project is being delivered under a “design and build” model, with construction expected to be completed by June 2026. The new facility will be strategically located within the Free Customs Zone at Małaszewicze, a critical gateway connecting Europe with Eurasian transport corridors.

The new terminal is designed to handle increasing transit volumes between China and Europe. It will feature infrastructure to support both rail-road and rail-rail transfers on both broad gauge (1520mm) and standard gauge (1435mm) tracks, which will allow for smooth cargo transitions without major delays. The project will include new tracks, upgraded existing lines, expanded rail yards, and modern logistics equipment and IT systems. The goal is to create a flexible and highly efficient facility that can handle a variety of cargo types.

This initiative is a response to global supply chain shifts and geopolitical pressures. Małaszewicze is a key transit point on the New Silk Road rail route, and its importance has been growing in industry circles. The location’s customs-free status is expected to attract logistics companies looking for more predictable and cost-effective cross-border transport, especially as other routes face capacity issues and changing regulations.
Project Leadership and Timeline
The contract for the project was signed by Agnieszka Hipś, President of Container Terminal Mala and CLIP Logistics, and Sławomir Piątek, CEO of TorKol. TorKol will act as the main contractor, leveraging its experience in large-scale rail infrastructure projects. The terminal is on a fast track for completion in June 2026, after which it is expected to become one of Central Europe’s most advanced intermodal facilities, capable of handling high-volume freight flows.
