Authorities have declared a partially submerged vessel a maritime hazard after it was found in an unstable position. An advisory committee under the Ministry of Shipping ruled that the wreck must be removed immediately to safeguard maritime safety and protect the surrounding environment.
Maritime Safety Concerns
The vessel’s deteriorating condition and unstable position pose a serious risk to navigation in the area. Officials emphasized that swift removal is necessary to prevent accidents and ensure safe passage for other ships operating nearby. Responsibility for the operation lies with the managing party, which has been officially notified.
Pollution Prevention Efforts
Prior to sinking, extensive measures were taken to prevent marine pollution. Fuel and lubricants were pumped out, and the cargo consisting of bulk material was safely offloaded.
Compartments were sealed with the support of tugboats, salvage vessels, and floating cranes. Additionally, a floating boom was deployed to contain any potential leakage, while anti-pollution equipment was kept on standby at both the grounding site and the nearest port. Authorities confirmed that no oil spill or environmental damage has been detected.
The wreck removal will now proceed under the supervision of the responsible party, with the Coast Guard continuing to monitor the site. These actions are expected to ensure both maritime safety and environmental protection in the affected area.
