Imabari Shipbuilding has completed the delivery of a new 64,000-ton handy-max bulk carrier named CORAL HALO from its Shin Kasado Dockyard, reports Container News.

This modern vessel is designed to support a wide range of cargo operations across international waters, offering both versatility and environmental efficiency.

Imabari Delivers Eco-Friendly Powerhouse

The CORAL HALO is equipped to carry a variety of cargoes including grain, coal, ore, cement, steel coils, and long steel. Each of its cargo holds features topside and hopper tanks, with wide hatch openings that make loading and unloading operations more efficient. The ship includes four deck cranes, enhancing cargo handling capabilities and allowing it to serve ports that lack shore-based equipment. Additionally, it is certified to carry both solid bulk cargoes and certain dangerous goods, making it highly adaptable for diverse shipping requirements.

Built with strict environmental standards in mind, the vessel complies with the latest international regulations, including those related to ballast water management, ship recycling, and emissions reduction. It meets carbon intensity guidelines that go beyond current norms, reflecting Imabari’s commitment to sustainable maritime operations. The ship is also fitted with a ballast water treatment system and maintains a detailed inventory of hazardous materials to support safe recycling practices in the future.

The CORAL HALO features energy-saving technologies such as a high-efficiency propeller and low-friction hull paint, which together improve fuel economy and reduce overall environmental impact. Its main engine, a 6S50ME-C9.7, delivers efficient propulsion with a service speed of approximately 14 knots. Measuring nearly 200 meters in length and over 32 meters in beam, the vessel balances size with maneuverability. It sails under the Panamanian flag and is classified by the Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK).

With the launch of CORAL HALO, Imabari Shipbuilding reinforces its role as a leading builder of high-performance, eco-conscious vessels, addressing both commercial and regulatory demands of the modern shipping industry.
