  • Drydocks World, a DP World company, has been awarded an EPC contract by AMIGO LNG for the world’s largest FLNG facility.
  • The project includes converting two LNG carriers into FSUs and building two FLNG barges at Dubai’s Drydocks World yard.
  • Once operational in 2028, the facility will deliver over 4.2 MTPA of liquefaction capacity, surpassing existing floating LNG projects.
  • Strategically located off Mexico’s west coast, it will enable direct LNG exports to Asia and Latin America with shorter shipping routes.

Drydocks World, a subsidiary of DP World, has secured a landmark Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract from AMIGO LNG to deliver the world’s largest Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) liquefaction facility. The project highlights Dubai’s growing role in advanced maritime engineering and global energy supply, according to the Government of Dubai Media Office.

Landmark FLNG Project to Redefine Global Energy Supply

The EPC contract awarded to Drydocks World covers the conversion of two LNG carriers into Floating Storage Units (FSUs) and the construction of two newbuild FLNG barges at its Dubai yard. Scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2028, the four-vessel facility will offer over 4.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefaction capacity, setting a new global record in floating LNG projects.

The facility will be located off Guaymas, Sonora, on Mexico’s west coast, drawing natural gas from the US Permian Basin. By providing direct LNG exports to Asia and Latin America, the project strengthens Mexico’s role in global energy trade. Its location offers shorter shipping routes to Asia compared to US Gulf terminals, reducing costs and emissions while creating a new LNG corridor at a time of rising global demand.

Drydocks World’s CEO, Capt. Rado Antolovic, highlighted the project as a milestone for Dubai, emphasizing the company’s expertise in offshore conversions and large-scale new builds. He noted that the initiative establishes new benchmarks for floating LNG solutions and reinforces Dubai’s standing as a hub for maritime engineering and the energy transition.

The project will adopt a modular build strategy, enabling precise fabrication, seamless integration, and pre-commissioning in a controlled environment. This approach ensures high quality, faster delivery, reduced environmental impact, and long-term performance. Dr. Muthu Chezhian, CEO of LNG Alliance Pte Ltd., added that FLNG solutions bring significant advantages, including accelerated project schedules, rigorous testing, and sustainability benefits.

Drydocks World has already completed more than 10 major LNG and FSRU conversion projects, further strengthening its reputation as a leader in the sector.
