COSCO Orders Energy-Efficient Marine Air System For Cadeler Offshore Vessel

21

COSCO Heavy Industries has placed an order for one of the marine market’s most environmentally friendly compressed air systems to equip a jack-up foundation installation vessel under construction for Cadeler A/S. The deal, awarded to TMC Compressors, underscores growing demand for energy-efficient technologies in offshore wind operations.

Smart Air Technology for Efficiency and Sustainability

Under the contract, TMC will supply a complete marine compressed air system built around its Smart Air compressors. These compressors deliver up to 40% energy savings compared to traditional systems by using frequency-controlled technology. The system automatically adjusts motor speed to match real-time compressed air demand, reducing power consumption during periods of lower air usage.

“This is a large vessel, which requires a large capacity marine compressed air system. Consequently, the more energy efficient the system is, the proportionate cost savings become even greater,” explained Hans Petter Tanum, director of sales and business development at TMC.

Supporting Cadeler’s Offshore Wind Ambitions

Cadeler, a leading player in offshore wind transport and installation, is developing an F-class vessel designed for maximum flexibility. The vessel can quickly shift between foundation installation and wind turbine generator (WTG) installation, allowing it to serve the industry’s largest renewable projects. The integration of TMC’s Smart Air system will help Cadeler optimize energy use and operating costs while advancing sustainability goals.

Tanum added, “As offshore and marine enthusiasts, it is exciting to be part of such a groundbreaking vessel project. I reckon most industry people would agree with me on this.”

With COSCO’s advanced shipbuilding capabilities and Cadeler’s focus on offshore wind, the adoption of TMC’s Smart Air system highlights how efficiency-driven innovations are reshaping marine operations. The project positions Cadeler’s new F-class vessel as a high-performance, environmentally conscious asset in the growing renewable energy sector.
