Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has approved the order of seven 15,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships from South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd, reports Container News.

The new vessels, which are scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2029, are a central component of the company’s fleet optimization and environmental strategy.

The order will allow Yang Ming to replace aging vessels and strengthen its core container shipping business. The company expects the new ships to enhance its service capabilities on key East-West routes.

A Step Toward Greener Shipping

The adoption of LNG dual-fuel technology is a key part of Yang Ming’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. The company projects that the new ships will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20% compared to vessels using traditional fuels, helping the carrier align with stricter international environmental regulations.

This order follows a previous order for five LNG dual-fuel containerships that are scheduled for delivery starting in 2026. The company’s focus on diversifying its energy sources and modernizing its fleet is aimed at enhancing its competitiveness and resilience amid global supply chain restructuring and market uncertainties.
