AD Ports Group, in partnership with Unicargas and Multiparques, has officially laid the foundation stone for the Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal at the Port of Luanda.
With an initial USD 250 million investment and up to USD 380 million planned over the concession period, this project represents one of the most significant port modernisation and expansion initiatives in Angola.
Transforming the Port of Luanda
The Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal will span 192,000 square metres and feature a 16-metre draft, making it the only facility at the Port of Luanda capable of accommodating Super Post-Panamax vessels of up to 14,000 TEUs. Construction, expected to last 18 months, will deliver world-class infrastructure, advanced technology, and sustainable equipment.
Upon completion in Q1 2027, container handling capacity will surge from 25,000 TEUs to 350,000 TEUs, while Ro-Ro volumes are projected to exceed 40,000 vehicles. The facility will also be equipped with three Super Post-Panamax STS cranes, eight hybrid RTGs, and cutting-edge IT systems to enhance operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Economic Growth and Regional Competitiveness
AD Ports Group holds an 81% stake in the multipurpose terminal and a 90% stake in Noatum Unicargas Logistics, ensuring a strong role in both port and logistics operations. By leveraging its global network, the group plans to attract new shipping lines, integrating Angola into key international trade corridors.
This expansion will lower import costs, boost exports, and enhance competitiveness for both Angola and the wider Central and West African region. Importantly, the project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, alongside training programmes and community development initiatives, reinforcing Angola’s position as a regional logistics hub.
The Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal marks a transformative step for Angola’s maritime sector. By modernising infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and creating inclusive economic opportunities, AD Ports Group and its partners are positioning the Port of Luanda as a critical hub for trade and logistics in Africa.
With significant investments already underway across multiple African nations, AD Ports Group continues to strengthen its footprint on the continent while driving long-term growth and sustainability.
