Intra-Asia container freight rates saw a 5% increase in the first half of September, reaching $1,551 per FEU, according to data released by the Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA). While current levels remain 9% below the same period last year, the Drewry Asia Container Index (ACI) suggests steady momentum through the remainder of the month, as reported by Container News.
Spot rate movements were uneven across major regional lanes. On the Busan–Shanghai and Ho Chi Minh City–Shanghai routes, prices held steady at $0 and $30 per TEU, respectively. Jakarta–Shanghai declined by 15% to $425 per TEU, while Shanghai–Jawaharlal Nehru rose sharply by 17% to $1,663 per TEU. The Shanghai–Tanjung Pelepas service dropped 10% to $922 per TEU, whereas Shanghai–Yokohama edged up 2% to $761 per TEU. In contrast, Yokohama–Shanghai slipped 7% to $77 per TEU.
