Belgian shipowner Exmar has confirmed an order for four newbuild Suezmax tankers from Daehan Shipbuilding in South Korea, signaling confidence in the growing prospects of the Suezmax market. The agreement also includes an option for four additional vessels.
Details of the Order
The Suezmax tankers, each with a deadweight of 157,200 tons, will be constructed at Daehan Shipbuilding’s Mokpo shipyard. Designed to carry around 1 million barrels of oil per voyage, the vessels will be equipped with scrubbers to comply with international emissions regulations. Exmar emphasized that the order reflects its anticipation of strong demand in the global crude oil transport market.
Delivery Timeline and Market Outlook
The first of the newbuilds is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2027, with the remaining units to follow thereafter. Exmar noted that the investment positions the company to benefit from positive long-term fundamentals in the Suezmax segment, supported by global oil trade flows and tightening fleet supply.
By committing to new Suezmax tonnage at Daehan Shipbuilding, Exmar is reinforcing its presence in the crude oil transportation sector. The order not only prepares the company for anticipated market growth but also underscores its focus on modern, environmentally compliant fleet expansion.
