K Shipbuilding made an exciting announcement on September 22. It revealed that they’ve inked a shipbuilding deal with a shipping company based in Europe. This contract involves constructing two petrochemical product carriers, each with a capacity of 50,000 tons, for a total of 129 billion won. The delivery of these vessels is set for the first half of 2027, reports Chosun Biz.

Vessels Comply with IMO Environmental Standards

The newly ordered ships are crafted to comply with the stricter environmental standards set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and to achieve level 3 of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). They’re also designed for easy conversion to eco-friendly fuel systems, like liquefied natural gas (LNG) or methanol. With this latest order, K Shipbuilding has now secured a total of 10 vessels this year, amounting to 820 billion won, which includes two options.

Focus on Profitability and Market Position

A K Shipbuilding official said, “This is a result achieved with all-out support from the major shareholder UAMCO (United Asset Management Company). Through this year’s order activities, we will maximise profitability and work to establish ourselves as a strong player in the midsize ship market.”
