Maldives To Launch First Shore Power Systems With Cavotec And Mohan Mutha Group

12

In a landmark move toward sustainable maritime operations, Cavotec has signed an agreement with the Mohan Mutha Group to deliver the Maldives’ first-ever shore power systems. This initiative highlights the nation’s strong commitment to reducing port-related emissions and sets a benchmark for other South Asian ports to follow.

A Major Step in Port Electrification

The agreement includes five Power Run and Power Feed systems, scheduled for delivery in early 2026. These systems will enable vessels docking at Maldivian ports to switch off their auxiliary engines and connect directly to onshore power. This will help cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce local air pollution, and lower vessel engine wear, thereby improving both environmental quality and operational efficiency.

Regional Impact and Global Significance

As the first project of its kind in the Maldives, this initiative positions the country as an early adopter of port electrification in South Asia. According to Cavotec CEO David Pagels, the deal not only reflects the Maldives’ leadership in sustainable shipping but also demonstrates Cavotec’s global role in advancing port electrification. The project is expected to serve as a reference point for other island nations and regional ports planning their own decarbonisation strategies.

The partnership between Cavotec and Mohan Mutha Group marks a turning point for the Maldives in its pursuit of greener maritime operations. By pioneering shore power systems, the Maldives is taking a decisive step toward cleaner ports, reduced emissions, and regional leadership in sustainability—setting an inspiring precedent for South Asia and beyond.
