Royal T Shipyards has delivered the MV SUEVE, a new dry cargo vessel with a diesel-electric propulsion system, to Spanish shipowner Navinorte/G. Junquera Marítima. The vessel, which is part of the yard’s Salmo series, was officially christened on September 11, 2025, in Gijón, Spain, following its delivery in the Netherlands on September 4.
Vessel Design and Performance
The 5,050 dwt MV SUEVE is a product of Royal T Shipyards’ focus on sustainable and efficient vessel design. It is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system that combines diesel engines with electric motors, allowing for optimal power generation and consumption. This system, coupled with a smart automation platform for voyage analysis, has already demonstrated outstanding maneuverability and notably low fuel consumption during sea trials.
The vessel measures 87.30 meters in length and features a single box-shaped cargo hold with a capacity of 5,915 cubic meters, providing operational flexibility for various dry cargo segments.
The Salmo Series
The Salmo series, developed by Royal T Shipyards, is a line of modular, diesel-electric dry cargo vessels with deadweight capacities ranging from 5,050 dwt to 6,500 dwt. The series is designed to be future-proof, with a hull form optimized for its propulsion system and space allocated for the future installation of alternative fuel systems like methanol or hydrogen. The first vessel in the series, the MV Iana, was delivered to Transtal Shipping in early 2025.
The christening ceremony highlighted the strong collaboration between the shipbuilder and the shipowner, Navinorte, which specializes in dry cargo tramp shipping. The event reinforced the shared commitment of both companies to bringing efficient, future-ready ships into the short-sea market, emphasizing a balance between tradition and innovation in the maritime sector.
