Kongsberg Maritime has signed a contract to deliver two additional uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) to Reach Subsea, strengthening the REACH REMOTE programme. Based on the UT5208 design, these 24-metre platforms are purpose-built for remote and autonomous offshore operations, marking a significant step in scaling up sustainable subsea services.
Building on the Success of REACH REMOTE 1 and 2
The agreement follows the groundbreaking performance of REACH REMOTE 1, which recently completed fully remote-controlled offshore deployments off Norway and was named “Ship of the Year 2024” at SMM. Under the contract model, Kongsberg will oversee ship design, supply chain management, systems integration, commissioning, and final delivery, while subcontracting the physical construction. This approach streamlines efficiency and accelerates fleet-scale adoption of autonomous technologies.
Integrated Systems and Remote Operations
Kongsberg Maritime’s scope of supply includes advanced automation, navigation, situation awareness solutions, manoeuvring and thruster control, energy storage, telecom, and ROV equipment. Massterly, the Kongsberg–Wilhelmsen joint venture, will handle remote navigation from dedicated operations centres, while Reach Subsea will lead subsea mission execution managing ROVs, data collection, and processing through its proprietary remote operations architecture.
With vessels 3 and 4 now confirmed, the REACH REMOTE programme is entering its scale-up phase, supported by exclusive options for additional units. The collaboration between Reach Subsea, Kongsberg Maritime, and Massterly underscores a shared vision for safer, smarter, and greener offshore services, where ocean robotics and remote operations become central to subsea industries worldwide.
