  • Monfalcone shipyard remains a strategic industrial hub, generating over 23,000 regional jobs through its supply chain.

Fincantieri and Princess Cruises have marked a major milestone with the delivery of Star Princess, the second LNG-powered cruise ship in the Sphere Class. The vessel, constructed at the Monfalcone shipyard, highlights advancements in sustainable shipbuilding and further strengthens Italy’s leadership in the global cruise sector, according to Fincantieri.

With a gross tonnage of about 178,000, Star Princess is the sister ship to Sun Princess and the second largest vessel ever built in Italy. Designed to accommodate approximately 4,300 people, the ship is powered by liquefied natural gas, making it the second dual-fuel vessel in the Princess Cruises fleet. LNG significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants, reinforcing its role as the most proven and scalable alternative fuel in the maritime sector today.

Built on a next-generation platform, Star Princess incorporates new systems that enhance energy efficiency and reflect Fincantieri’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The Monfalcone shipyard—Fincantieri’s largest production site—has delivered over 40 cruise ships since 1990 and continues to serve as a strategic asset for Italy’s industrial growth, supporting more than 23,000 regional jobs through its supply chain.
