Unifeeder has announced a strategic partnership with Portchain to optimize port call operations and reduce inefficiencies. By adopting Portchain Connect, the two organizations aim to cut vessel waiting times, lower fuel consumption, and simplify daily coordination between shipping lines and terminals. The initiative builds on a successful Proof of Value project, demonstrating measurable benefits across the Americas, Northern Europe, and the Mediterranean.
Real-Time Collaboration through Portchain Connect
The new platform enables a shared real-time view of schedules, helping Unifeeder and its terminal partners align more efficiently on berthing windows. This digitized communication process replaces time-consuming manual exchanges, giving operations teams quicker access to high-quality data. Terminals benefit from receiving Unifeeder’s live schedule and move count updates, while Unifeeder enjoys earlier berth confirmations, more predictable arrivals, and increased vessel speed stability.
Proven Benefits from the Partnership
The pilot phase showed tangible improvements, including reduced waiting times, daily time savings of up to one hour, and measurable fuel efficiency gains. For Unifeeder’s operations teams, this means less time spent chasing information and more focus on effective planning. As Christian Jurlander, Head of Global Fleet Optimization at Unifeeder, highlighted, the collaboration has already led to more stable vessel speeds, more reliable arrivals, and significant operational benefits.
With the successful pilot setting a strong foundation, Unifeeder and Portchain are now preparing to expand the partnership across Europe and the Americas. By enhancing real-time data exchange and supporting Just In Time arrivals, the collaboration is paving the way for a more efficient, predictable, and sustainable future in maritime logistics.
