Bahri, the Kingdom’s leading shipping and logistics provider, has placed its first order for six dry bulk carriers from International Maritime Industries (IMI). This groundbreaking step represents the beginning of Saudi Arabia’s first large-scale shipbuilding initiative.
It aligns with Vision 2030 and the Saudi Inc. initiative, which focus on building a globally competitive maritime ecosystem, strengthening supply chains, and promoting industrial localization.
Partnership with IMI: A Strategic Milestone
The new carriers will be constructed at IMI’s advanced shipyard in Ras Al-Khair, the largest and most sophisticated maritime facility in the MENA region. According to Bahri’s CEO, Eng. Ahmed Ali Al-Subaey, the agreement is not only about expanding Bahri’s fleet but also about creating a sustainable maritime industry that supports Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation. By modernizing its fleet and localizing shipbuilding, Bahri aims to boost supply chain resilience, enhance service levels, and deliver long-term value in line with the goals of Vision 2030.
Enhancing Competitiveness with Advanced Vessel Design
The newly ordered geared Ultramax vessels are built for flexibility and efficiency. Their design allows access to ports with limited infrastructure, opening opportunities in niche and emerging trade markets. This adaptability enables Bahri Dry Bulk to expand into strategic routes while reducing risks from market volatility. By adopting such innovative designs, Bahri strengthens its competitiveness and ensures sustainability in a rapidly evolving global maritime industry.
Bahri’s agreement with IMI marks a defining moment for Saudi Arabia’s maritime sector. It highlights the Kingdom’s determination to localize shipbuilding, strengthen supply chains, and increase global trade competitiveness. As Saudi Arabia moves closer to the objectives of Vision 2030, this milestone reinforces the nation’s role as a rising power in the global shipping and logistics arena.
