Recently, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, met with Danish Ambassador Lars Bo Møller in Ismailia to discuss strengthening maritime cooperation and advancing ongoing development projects.

The meeting, attended by senior officials including Vice Chairman Ashraf Atwa, highlighted the vital partnership between the Suez Canal and Denmark, particularly through the global shipping giant Maersk.

Focus on Expansions and Strategic Projects

Rabie emphasized the Authority’s commitment to development projects in the maritime and logistics sectors, underlining the importance of the Suez Canal’s strategic location. He specifically pointed to the expansion of the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said, which is set to open soon and promises to enhance Egypt’s role in global trade.

The chairman encouraged Maersk to gradually resume its transits through the Suez Canal, noting the company’s longstanding ties with the waterway and its key role in international shipping.

Denmark’s Support and Outlook for Global Trade

Ambassador Møller praised the Authority’s efforts in expanding the Suez Canal Container Terminal, stressing that the project would significantly increase East Port Said’s competitiveness and transform it into a regional trade hub.

Addressing the Red Sea situation, he remarked that the return of major shipping lines to the Suez Canal was “inevitable,” calling it the “main gateway for global trade.” He further explained that while Maersk is closely monitoring regional developments, the company acknowledges the canal’s unmatched importance in international maritime trade.

The meeting between the Suez Canal Authority and the Danish Ambassador reaffirmed the strength of Egypt–Denmark maritime relations. With expansion projects underway and continued dialogue with global partners like Maersk, the Suez Canal is set to maintain its position as one of the most critical trade routes worldwide.
