NYK Stolt Tankers, S.A., a joint venture between NYK and Stolt Tankers Limited, has signed a new shipbuilding contract with Nantong Xiangyu Shipyard in China for two parcel chemical tankers. Scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029, the vessels will join the chemical tanker pool operated by Stolt Tankers B.V., strengthening the joint venture’s modern and sustainable fleet.

Expanding Fleet Capacity with Advanced Vessels

The newly ordered ships are large parcel chemical tankers with a cargo capacity of 38,000 tons. Equipped with stainless steel cargo holds, the vessels will be capable of transporting a wide variety of chemical products, including renewable fuels and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This order adds to six similar vessels commissioned in 2024, bringing the total number of chemical tankers under construction to eight.

Commitment to Sustainability and Efficiency

Aligned with global decarbonization efforts, the tankers will incorporate energy-saving features and be equipped to receive shore-side electricity during port calls, reducing emissions while docked. By introducing fuel-efficient ships and retiring older tonnage, NYK and Stolt Tankers aim to enhance environmental performance while responding to rising demand for renewable energy transport.

With this strategic investment, NYK Stolt Tankers continues to expand and modernize its chemical tanker fleet to meet future market needs. By prioritizing sustainability and efficiency, the joint venture is positioning itself to support the energy transition and ensure reliable chemical transport in a decarbonizing global economy.
