On June 28, Libyan authorities reportedly detained a Belize-flagged “Temeteron” oil tanker loaded with several thousand tons of diesel fuel in Libyan waters.  The crew of Temeteron is accused of smuggling the diesel oil.

There were Russians, Ukrainian and Greek seafarers on board the detained tanker.

Diplomats from Russia, Ukraine and Greece were trying to get in contact with the crew of the tanker.

“The embassy staff, which is temporarily based in Tunis, is trying to quickly clarify the circumstances of the incident,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday.

Earlier, Libya’s National Oil Company (NOC) has reportedly warned of arresting any ship taking fuel exports from organisations other than NOC.
