India’s Maritime Sector Witnesses A New Wave Of Growth Union Minister Sonowal Addresses

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, addressed the 10th convocation of the Indian Maritime University (IMU) in Chennai, celebrating the achievements of 2,196 graduating students.

During his address, he highlighted the remarkable transformation of India’s maritime sector over the past decade under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He emphasized that the maritime industry has become a key driver of India’s economic and global aspirations.

Revitalization of India’s Maritime Sector

Over the last ten years, India’s maritime landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Initiatives such as Sagarmala, Maritime India Vision 2030, and the National Logistics Policy have modernized ports, improved connectivity, and boosted shipbuilding and logistics. Shri Sonowal noted that these efforts have not only enhanced efficiency but also positioned India as a global player in sustainable and technologically advanced maritime operations.

Expanding Opportunities for Youth in the Maritime Industry

Addressing the graduating students, the Minister stressed that the maritime industry now offers a wide range of opportunities. Careers in shipping, ports, logistics, shipbuilding, research, and green maritime technologies are rapidly growing. He encouraged the young graduates to take part in this evolving sector, contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global maritime leader and supporting the nation’s Blue Economy vision.

The 10th convocation of IMU marked not just an academic milestone but also a celebration of India’s maritime resurgence. With strong government initiatives and a focus on sustainability and innovation, India’s maritime future looks promising. Shri Sonowal’s message to the youth was clear — they are stepping into a sector full of potential, ready to shape India’s maritime destiny on the global stage.
