The funding will support R&D focused on improving the safety and efficiency of ammonia bunkering at the Port of Singapore. The company plans to conduct a demonstration of ammonia bunkering in 2027, working closely with MPA to develop safety standards, operational procedures, and emergency response measures.

At the same time, a consortium, led by Keppel Ltd and including Sumitomo Corporation, has been selected by Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and MPA to move into the next phase of a project exploring a complete low- or zero-carbon ammonia supply chain on Jurong Island for power generation and marine fuel.

These efforts will contribute to the decarbonisation of the shipping industry while supporting Sumitomo Corporation’s broader commitment to energy transformation, a key growth area under its current Medium-Term Management Plan,” the Corporation said in a statement.
