A ‘Paradigm Shift’ for the LNG Trade and the New Panama Canal
On July 1, a cargo ship crew member fell 15 to 20 feet from a ladder into a cargo ship’s hold, while cleaning a vent, and got seriously injured at Port Everglades. Fire Rescue crews used ropes and an aerial platform to hoist up the injured worker from the cargo ship hold and took him to a hospital.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles reportedly said that the the 42-year-old man was knocked unconscious at first when his ladder slipped and fell down taking him along, down nearly 20 feet. Rescue crews gave him oxygen and fluids before he was put on a stretcher and hoisted up with ropes and lowered to the dockside.
“He was immobilized and splinted and put into a basket stretcher, one of our firefighters rode up with [him].” Jachles added.
The filipino man, sustained injuries to his head and shoulders and was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where his condition is reported to be serious but not critical.
