AAL Shipping has been honored with the “Cargo Operator of the Year” award at the Asia Pacific Supply Chain Excellence Awards in Singapore. This recognition underscores AAL’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the heavy-lift and project cargo sector.
Setting New Standards in Heavy-Lift Shipping
The award highlights AAL’s development of its Super B-Class fleet, a series of six vessels each with a 32,000 deadweight tonne capacity. These vessels are equipped with methanol-ready engines, a 700-tonne heavy lift capacity, over 40,000 cubic meters of stowage, and the innovative ECO-DECK system. These design features enable AAL to transport oversized and complex cargo with reduced environmental impact.
Delivering Complex Global Projects
AAL’s Super B-Class vessels have successfully completed several high-profile projects. Notably, the maiden voyage of the Super B-Class ‘AAL Limassol’ transported over 89,000 freight tonnes of mixed cargo, including 55-meter-long columns, wind turbine blades, and two large barges, across multiple sectors. Additionally, the ‘AAL Hamburg’ utilized its ECO-DECK to transport four 135-meter-long barges, totaling 6,200 tonnes, from Nantong, China, to Rotterdam, Netherlands, on a single voyage.
Acknowledging Team Dedication
Teck Liong Liew, Chief Financial Officer of AAL Shipping, accepted the award, emphasizing that it recognizes both the ingenuity of the Super B-Class design and the dedication of AAL’s global teams. He noted that the award reflects the trust placed in AAL by its partners and the company’s commitment to delivering complex projects safely, reliably, and sustainably.
Implications for the Maritime Industry
This accolade positions AAL Shipping as a leader in the heavy-lift and project cargo sector. For shipowners and operators, it highlights the importance of investing in innovative vessel designs that enhance capacity and environmental performance. Logistics professionals can look to AAL’s approach as a model for executing complex global projects efficiently. Policymakers may find value in understanding how such innovations contribute to sustainable practices in the maritime industry.
