CNOOC Expands LNG Fleet With Delivery of Greenergy Star

18

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has strengthened its liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport capacity with the addition of the Greenergy Star, a 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier. Delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), this vessel marks another milestone in China’s efforts to enhance its energy security and import flexibility under long-term Free on Board (FOB) LNG contracts.

Expansion of the “Greenergy” Fleet

The delivery of Greenergy Star on October 13, 2025, in Shanghai adds to CNOOC’s growing “Greenergy” fleet, which already includes Greenergy Ying and Greenergy Pearl. This trio of vessels forms part of a 12-ship program designed to expand CNOOC’s LNG transport capabilities. The Greenergy Star belongs to Hudong-Zhonghua’s fifth-generation “Changheng-series,” known for combining advanced engineering with sustainability-focused performance.

Advanced Technology and Efficiency Features

The Greenergy Star incorporates cutting-edge technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing emissions. It is equipped with GTT’s NO96 Super+ cargo containment system, designed to minimize LNG boil-off losses. The ship also uses a WinGD 5X72DF2.1 dual-fuel main engine with iCER technology, which optimizes fuel consumption and lowers greenhouse gas emissions. These innovations align with CNOOC’s strategy to achieve cleaner and more efficient energy transport solutions.

With the Greenergy Star now in service, CNOOC moves closer to completing its 12-ship LNG program, reinforcing its leadership in China’s energy sector. This addition not only enhances the nation’s LNG import flexibility but also supports broader national goals of energy security and environmental responsibility. Hudong-Zhonghua’s advanced shipbuilding capabilities continue to play a pivotal role in realizing China’s ambitions for sustainable maritime energy transport.
