Quantum Maritime Conference 2025: Uniting Deep Tech and the Blue Economy

15

The Quantum Maritime Conference 2025, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, was the world’s inaugural international forum specifically designed to unite quantum technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and maritime innovation. The event established a new global framework focused on collaboration, applied research, and education to drive the digital transformation, efficiency, and sustainability of the maritime sector.

Primary Focus of the Conference

The core objective of the conference was to explore how emerging quantum and AI technologies can fundamentally redefine global maritime operations, enhance the efficiency of international trade, and significantly drive sustainability within the industry. The forum gathered over 40 speakers and delegations from more than 30 nations, including government officials and industry leaders, to set a new global standard for the integration of deep technology into the blue economy.

The event featured high-level speakers who emphasized the strategic importance of technological advancement for national resilience and industry transformation. Key addresses were delivered by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, who spoke on quantum resilience and national digital sovereignty, and Professor Sir Kostya Novoselov, a Nobel Laureate. Remarks were also given by Dr. Yasser Al Wahedi, President of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, and Malak Trabelsi Loeb, CEO of Vernewell Group.

Launch of the Blue Initiative

A major outcome of the conference was the official launch of the Blue Initiative, a joint endeavor involving AD Ports Group, Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, and Vernewell Group. This initiative is designed to leverage Quantum technologies and AI to create an integrated framework connecting education, research, and enterprise. Its goal is to accelerate innovation in strategic areas such as quantum communication, sensing, optimization, cybersecurity, and sustainable maritime operations, thus strengthening Abu Dhabi’s technological capacity in the blue economy.

The practical potential of quantum technology for the maritime industry was highlighted through pioneering demonstrations:

  • Secure Communications Network
    • ID Quantique showcased a Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) network for secure ship-to-shore and port communications.
  • Enhanced Data Integrity
    • QuantumGate unveiled a quantum communication prototype demonstrating enhanced operational accuracy and data integrity across maritime networks.

Platforms for Future Innovation

To ensure continuous progress and linkage between scientific research and industry application, the conference announced two future platforms:

  • Quantum Maritime Industry Challenge 2025
  • Research-to-Impact Competition

These platforms are intended to foster partnerships and accelerate the development of scalable solutions in areas such as logistics optimization, navigation, and emissions management.
