Survitec, a global leader in Survival Technology, has introduced a breakthrough high-expansion foam fire suppression system designed to deliver higher foam output at significantly lower operating pressures. This innovation marks a major step forward in marine fire safety, offering shipyards and shipowners an advanced solution that minimizes both installation and operational costs without compromising performance.
Advanced Design for Superior Foam Performance
At the heart of this innovation lies a newly redesigned foam generator that optimizes nozzle alignment, introduces rotary motion elements, and enhances airflow for efficient foam production. According to Product Manager Maciej Nieścioruk, the primary goal was to lower pressure requirements a long-standing challenge in foam system design.
By achieving high expansion rates at much lower nominal pressures, the system not only reduces energy demands on pumps but also cuts down the number of generators needed to produce the same foam volume. This means fewer units, less weight, and lower installation costs, making the system both economical and effective.
Efficiency, Flexibility, and Environmental Compliance
Validated through collaboration with DNV, the system demonstrates consistent expansion ratios and stable discharge performance across configurations. Its optimized components including a redesigned impeller and efficient nozzle system ensure greater air intake and foam distribution, resulting in reliable operation at reduced pressures.
Additionally, the new system is fluorine-free, aligning with upcoming environmental regulations, and can be used for total flooding protection in machinery spaces, RORO decks, and gas carriers. It also integrates seamlessly with Survitec’s digital safety management platform SMARR-TI, and is compatible with existing ship systems, ensuring adaptability for diverse vessel types.
Survitec’s next-generation foam fire suppression system represents a major advancement in maritime safety technology. By combining enhanced foam efficiency, lower operational pressures, and eco-friendly design, it offers shipowners a sustainable, cost-effective, and reliable fire protection solution. Attendees at Kormarine 2025 in Busan, Korea, will have the opportunity to explore this innovative system firsthand at stand 1G45.
