12

Valenciaport recorded stable container traffic in September 2025, despite a slight monthly decline. The port’s cumulative and year-on-year figures show sustained growth, underscoring its role as a key Mediterranean logistics hub with strong trade links to China and the United States.

Container Volumes Reflect Long-Term Growth

In September, Valenciaport handled 466,789 containers, marking a 4.5% decrease compared to the same month last year. However, the broader outlook remains positive. Between January and September, total container throughput reached 4,287,037 TEUs, up 3.6% from the same period in 2024.

On a year-on-year basis, Valenciaport managed 5.6 million TEUs, representing a 5.2% increase, reflecting the port’s resilience amid global trade fluctuations.

Cargo and Vehicle Movements

According to the Statistical Office of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), combined import and export traffic across the ports of Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia totaled 6.3 million tonnes in September, down 8.05%.

From January to September, cumulative cargo volume stood at 60.3 million tonnes (-1.41%), while year-on-year figures reached 79.8 million tonnes (-1.01%).

Vehicle handling remained stable, with 47,136 units loaded and unloaded in September (-0.8% month-on-month). Overall, 372,224 vehicles were processed in 2025 so far, and 526,232 units over the past twelve months.

China and the U.S. Lead Trade Partnerships

China continues to be Valenciaport’s top trading partner, with 622,313 containers (+15.19%) and 6.6 million tonnes (+8.87%) handled this year. The United States remains the second-largest partner, accounting for 290,458 containers (+7.06%) and 4.5 million tonnes (+7.06%).

Algeria ranks third in terms of container volume, with 240,407 TEUs (+34.9%), while Italy surpasses the U.S. in cargo weight, exceeding 5 million tonnes.

Despite a temporary slowdown in September, Valenciaport’s steady performance across the first nine months and strong year-on-year growth reaffirm its position as one of Europe’s most dynamic and diversified ports. With expanding trade flows to Asia, North America, and the Mediterranean, the port continues to play a pivotal role in global maritime logistics.
