A leading Chinese shipbuilder has finalized a significant contract to construct up to four Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), valued between USD 400 million and USD 600 million. The deal marks one of the largest tanker orders of the year, underscoring continued demand for large-scale crude carriers amid stable oil transport activity.
Each of the new vessels will have a capacity of approximately 306,000 deadweight tons (DWT), with deliveries scheduled between the second half of 2026 and the first half of 2027. The agreement is expected to enhance the shipyard’s orderbook and reinforce its position in the high-value tanker construction market.
The shipbuilder’s expansion into the VLCC segment follows its transition toward advanced shipbuilding technologies and large-scale production capabilities. The move also reflects the continued confidence of international shipowners in China’s growing expertise in constructing energy-efficient, high-capacity vessels designed for long-haul crude transportation.
