The Egyptian Presidency announced the inauguration of multiple maritime stations within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) at East Port Said Port, marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing role in global shipping and logistics.
The ceremony opened with a Quran recitation and a documentary reflecting on a decade of achievements, setting the tone for a day centered on maritime development, port expansion, and long-term industry transformation. Senior leaders from major global port operators praised Egypt’s strategic leadership, noting the country’s efforts to foster regional stability and strengthen maritime trade. They highlighted ongoing cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority and reaffirmed plans for expanded investment, supported by an increasingly business-friendly environment.
Speeches throughout the event underscored SCZONE’s transformation into a strategic gateway for trade, industry, and logistics. Leadership from the automotive handling and logistics sectors emphasized that newly developed stations will enhance production, support exports, and position Egypt as a competitive node in the international supply chain. A series of inaugurations followed via video conference, including an automotive handling station and a multi-purpose terminal designed to strengthen maritime operations and intermodal connectivity.
A detailed presentation on East Port Said’s integrated development plan reinforced its rapidly rising global ranking. The Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority noted that the port is now the leading container port in Africa and among the top globally. The Authority outlined its investment strategy, highlighting more than 136,000 direct jobs created between 2016 and 2025 and over $11.6 billion in total investments. The focus on industrial localization, including green hydrogen production aligned with Egypt’s low-carbon hydrogen strategy, signals SCZONE’s ambition to lead future-ready maritime industries.
Government officials echoed this momentum, outlining a national strategy that has modernized 14 ports and added 5 new ones. These investments form part of a broader vision to make Egypt a central hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade—leveraging its unique geographic position and its role along one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.
President El-Sisi emphasized that the progress witnessed today is the result of sustained national effort and a commitment to overcoming early challenges. He described the Suez Canal Economic Zone as a cornerstone of Egypt’s long-term logistics strategy and called for continued acceleration of projects to reinforce the country’s global standing in maritime transport, ports, and infrastructure. The President expressed appreciation for international partners honoring their investment commitments and reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to facilitate further expansion.
Closing the ceremony, the President highlighted the resilience of the Egyptian people and their role in supporting national development. The event concluded with a commemorative photograph alongside senior officials and representatives from key maritime partners.
