Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has strengthened its position in the global shipbuilding market with a major new contract worth 1.92 trillion won (US$1.38 billion). The deal, placed by an undisclosed Asian client, adds to the company’s growing list of commercial ship orders for the year and pushes it beyond its annual order target.
Major Contract Boosts 2025 Orderbook
Samsung Heavy Industries confirmed that it will build seven container ships under the newly signed agreement. These vessels are scheduled for sequential delivery by November 2029.
This contract alone marks one of SHI’s biggest deals of the year and reflects the growing demand for advanced container vessels in the Asian shipping market.
SHI Surpasses Annual Order Target
With this order, SHI’s commercial ship division has now secured US$6.1 billion in orders so far this year exceeding its 2025 target of US$5.8 billion.
The company has already won contracts for 39 vessels, including:
-
7 LNG carriers
-
9 shuttle tankers
-
9 container ships
A company official noted that SHI will continue to focus on profitability-oriented orders to maintain strong and stable workloads in the commercial shipbuilding sector.
Samsung Heavy Industries’ latest contract highlights the company’s continued momentum in the global maritime market. By surpassing its annual order target and securing high-value, high-quality projects, SHI is positioning itself for sustained growth and stability in the coming years. The new container ships order further reinforces its reputation as one of the world’s leading shipbuilders.
