Lloyd’s Register Joins DCSA+ To Advance Global Digital Standards In Container Shipping

8

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has officially joined the Digital Container Shipping Association’s DCSA+ partnership programme, strengthening global efforts to standardise digitalisation in the container shipping industry. By joining this expanding ecosystem of carriers, terminals, shippers, forwarders, and technology providers, LR aims to contribute directly to creating unified, scalable digital standards that support a more efficient and transparent maritime supply chain.

Advancing Digital Collaboration Through DCSA+

By becoming a DCSA+ partner, Lloyd’s Register enters a global network committed to harmonising data and digital processes across the container shipping landscape. The programme provides a structured collaborative platform where members exchange insights and work on real-world digital solutions.
LR’s initial role will focus on developing the Operational Vessel Schedules (OVS) standard an initiative aimed at enhancing visibility, coordination, and data accuracy across vessel schedules. Improved OVS standards will enable shipping stakeholders to better plan operations, reduce delays, and optimise port and fleet efficiency.

Nick Gross, Global Container Ship Segment Director at LR, emphasised that partnering with DCSA will help position LR at the forefront of digital transformation. He noted that combining LR’s deep technical expertise with real operational insights will allow them to develop dependable, scalable solutions for the industry.

Strengthening Industry-Wide Digital Adoption

DCSA+ was created to extend digital standardisation across the full maritime ecosystem, not just carrier operations. With the inclusion of partners like LR and OneOcean, the programme gains broader technical depth and practical experience across navigation, compliance, ESG, and maritime decision-support systems.
Mariana Bock-Losada, Chief Growth Officer at DCSA, highlighted that LR’s involvement strengthens the shared mission to accelerate the adoption of unified digital standards, creating a more connected and sustainable global supply chain.

OneOcean also expressed enthusiasm for deeper collaboration, citing its extensive digital footprint across more than 30,000 vessels and over one million seafarers. Their expertise in vessel connectivity and digital operations is expected to further aid the collective mission of improving safety, efficiency, and environmental performance.

Lloyd’s Register joining the DCSA+ programme marks a significant step forward for global maritime digitalisation. By bringing technical expertise and industry-wide insights to ongoing standardisation efforts, LR is set to play an important role in shaping the future of digital operations in container shipping. As collaboration expands across carriers, technology providers, and logistics partners, the industry moves closer to a unified digital ecosystem that enhances efficiency, transparency, and sustainability in global trade.
